Győrtelek, village in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County. The name of the village is mentioned for the first time in 1380: Giurtheleke.
At the time, it also had a population of serfs.
In 1333, Cháholyi Sebestyén gave it to his son György and named it Gerg’s lot (Leleszi Káptalan). In 1399, some of the inhabitants of the destroyed Mácsa also moved here. In 1452 its name was Geregteleke, Gertheleke, Gergthelek and 25 years later Gyerthelek. The resulting name “Györtelek” was changed in the mid-19th century. The town in the neighborhood of Ecsed Castle has been destroyed by many trials throughout its history. The wars that passed through the area devastated it each time, being almost destroyed in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
In 1662, the German guard of the Satu Mare castle, and in 1717 the Tatars looted it. In 1709 and 1742, the plague decimated the population. . It was flooded almost every year by the Someș flood, for example, during the great flood of 1970, most of the village was submerged. At the time, many of its inhabitants built new houses in nearby Mátészalka. In the early 1900s, Zsigmond Jékey and Elemér Németh were its largest owners. (Borovszky). It was probably named after its former landlord.
