Halmeu (in Hungarian Halmi, in German Holmen) is the village of residence of the commune of the same name in Satu Mare County, Transylvania, Romania.Halmeu is located in the Ugocei Plain, in the northern part of Satu-Mare county. . It is an international road and rail crossing point of the Romanian-Ukrainian border. Neighbors: Porumbești to the west, Ukraine to the north and west, Turulung to the south-east, the Tur river to the south, Tămășeni to the north-east. Halmeu was a locality from the Árpád epoch whose name was already mentioned in certificates between 1216 and 1220. In 1217, it was mentioned as Holmy. In 1851, Elek Fényes wrote about the locality: with 112 Romani, 203 Greek Catholic, 601 Reformed, 150 resident Jews, church and Reformed church, synagogue, post office.
