The village of Nagypalád (in Ukrainian Велика Паладь (Velika Palagy / Velyka Palad’)) is located in Transcarpathia, Ukraine.
It is first mentioned in 1332 under the name of Palad. At first, it was part of the Rozsály manor. Then, from the 18th century, it was owned by the Kereskényi, Szakadáthy and Kölcsey families. The village, located along the streams Túr and Batár, has 1,984 inhabitants, 1,967 (95%) of Hungarian nationality. In 1910, it was a Hungarian village, 12 of its 1,525 inhabitants declared themselves German (less than 1% scattered), the rest were all Hungarian.
In 1580, the teacher, also known by his first name, was János Makrai. Currently, the 700-seat church was built in 1913 in the neo-Gothic style.
The church was completely renovated in 1958 it was renovated and in 1983 the exterior was rehabilitated with donations. In 1997, the tower was renovated, and in 2000, the interior of the church was partially restored. The current parish was built in 1918.
The parish, very old, was destroyed by fire at the beginning of the century. In 1950, after the
priest was dragged away, the building became state property. It was recovered in 1993 in an extremely unusable state by the faithful.
