Orașu Nou (previous name: Ioarăș, Hungarian Avasújváros) is the village of residence of the commune of the same name in Satu Mare County, Transylvania, Romania.
Orașu Nou commune is located in the north-eastern part of Satu Mare county, 37 km north-east from the county seat, on the DN19 road. It has a railway connection with Satu Mare on the line to Bixad. The commune of Orasu Nou borders: to the north with the commune of Călinești Oaș and the commune of Bixad; to the east with Orașu Negrești Oaș and Comuna Vama; to the south with Racșa Commune; to the west with Livada Commune, Medieșul Aurit Commune and Apa Commune.
Orașu Nou commune has the following localities in its composition: Orașu Nou, Orașu Nou Vii, Prilog, Prilog VII, Remetea Oaș.The town of Orașu Nou was mentioned for the first time in documents from 1270, the name referring to the relatively new establishment compared to the surrounding towns. The town of Prilog was documented for the first time in 1270. The village of Remetea Oaş is mentioned in writing for the first time in 1335. An important tourist resource on the territory of the commune is the Mujdeni reservoir, a favorite excursion spot especially among the young people of Satmar.
