Potău, village is located in Romania, Satu Mare county. A settlement in Satu Mare County, south of Medieșu Aurit, on the right bank of the Someș river.The village of Potău is mentioned for the first time in documents in 1215 under the name Magasmart.
In the 15th century, the settlement was owned by the Pathó family. The village belonged to the Medieșul Aurit Castle until the middle of the 15th century. In the 17th century, its largest owner was the Tóth family, who also intermarried with the Pathó family. In 1600, Zsófia Perényi, the widow of György Székely, received part of the estate here.In 1717, Sándor Viszocsányi had property here.
In the 18th century, it had several owners: Count Teleki, Baron Bánffy, Baron Wesselényi and the Darvay, Csabay, Fülep, Görög, Szeőke, Zoltán, Décsey, Gáspár, Bethlen, Kovács and Kún families.In the 19th century, it was owned by the Becsky, Tarczyak, Bethlen and Selyebi Kovács families.At the beginning of the 20th century, its owner, Count Mária Dégenfeld, was the largest owner here, but Móricz Tóth also had a partial property here.Potău, built near the Someș River, has moved several times over the centuries due to the flooding of the Someș River.
