Szamosszeg village is located in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County.
Neighboring settlements: Olcsvaapáti in the north, Panyola in the east, Szamoskér in the southeast, Tunyogmatolcs and Mátészalka in the south, Ópályi in the southwest, Nagydobos in the west and Olcsva in the northwest.Its population is 2,040 people, its urban surface is 231, and its extra-urban surface is 3,299 hectares.Szamosszeg got its name from one of the huge bends and corners of the Someș before the river was regulated. The prefix Szamos refers to the settlement’s location by the river. The first mention of his name dates to 1290.From the 18th century, in addition to Perény, to the middle of the 19th century, mainly Gr. Károlyi. The Eszterházy, Lónyay and, at the beginning of the last century, the Perényi, Károlyi and Mandel families have larger properties here. Throughout its history, the village has suffered greatly from flooding from the Someș River, the last memorable date being May 14-15, 1970, when a part of the settlement was flooded again.The population of the village shows a decreasing trend, in 1960 it still had a population of over 3,000 people, but today it has decreased to less than 2,200 people.
There are many elderly people, their proportion in the total population reaches 30%.The infrastructural endowment of the village is adequate in the comparison of the county.
In 2001, the entire internal sewage network and a modern sewage treatment plant were handed over.
Today, most of its inhabitants live from agriculture.
