The village, Méhtelek is located in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County. The settlement and its surroundings have been inhabited since ancient times. In 1972-73, valuable stone age artefacts belonging to the Körös culture, unique in Europe, were discovered on its territory and made the name of Méhtelek known. The village is one of the estates of the Gutkeled family.
The name of Méhtelek is first mentioned in certificates in 1344, its name was then written as Melteluk, Meltelek (Mélytelek). In the 1400s, it was owned by the Báthori family, and for a long time belonged to Rozsály Manor.
In 1620, Gábor Bethlen donated the settlement to Zsigmond Szentpáli, from which he later returned to Rozsály manor.
In the 18th and 19th centuries, it had several owners, including the Maróthi, Becsky, Counts Teleki and Eötvös families. Based on the surviving census data from 1847, the settlement had 368 inhabitants. From 1911 to 1913, someone recorded that there were 370 Reformed and 192 other religions living in Méhtelek.
